In this workshop, you will explore key tools for getting started successfully with Avenue. You will learn basic course management as well as identify common functions that appear throughout the interface. You will explore the system at the user account level and at the course level. Inside a workshop course, you will learn about the Content and Classlist tools as well as the administrative areas of your course.

In this workshop, you will explore the Grades tool, from setting up your Grades to viewing, entering, changing and managing grades for your students. You will also be introduced to the Dropbox tool - an area where you will setup your assignments for your course - to demonstrate the interaction between Avenue tools and the Grades tool. Viewing and testing of your course from a "student" view will be also be covered in this session.

In this workshop, you will explore the Quizzes tool and you will learn how to create quizzes and questions in your Question Library. You will also view the quiz from a student’s perspective, submit a quiz and grade it.

This hands-on, interactive workshop will explore some best practices for using Avenue to Learn tools to enhance student learning and engagement. The workshop will begin with a discussion around student expectations within an online environment. Next we will focus on effective implementation of course content, online discussions and online assessments (e.g., quizzes and drop-boxes). The session will close with a group conversation regarding the importance on creating a positive online culture and community within your course. Participants should have basic skills within Avenue, including posting content, creating discussion forums and adding quiz questions to the Question Library. Resources and information will be provided, and participants will have the opportunity to implement many of the suggestions into their own practice.
